I opened a file from the files tool, it opened automatically in preview though it was an illustrator file.
I dragged the file icon from the preview window menubar on to the Illustrator icon to launch the same file in illustrator, changed the file, and then saved it - Collaber hung and had to be killed.
looking on the applications popup menu from the dock, I see that there is an invisible window waiting for me to save: http://i40.tinypic.com/mua6h3.png
If I do not launch the file in a different app than the default, make changes in the default app, and then save, it works alright.
As a workaround, could you add an 'open with...' option that would let me choose the program to open a file with when it is opened from the files tool?

We have considered the option
We have considered the option of adding "Open with". But it requires native integration with the OS and there is no standard way of doing it in Java.
I think Collaber did not hang in your above situation. It have prompted a message asking if the changes should be imported back or not. But that prompt was not visible to you due to some reason. As that prompt is a Model Dialog. ("Nothing else will work unless it is closed") you felt as if Collaber hanged.
We will test and see why it happened in this way.
