I have a CSV file of records with Japanese names. I export the csv in unicode UTF-8, and can view the characters correctly in other programs, but the japanese text is garbled when imported through the 'import' button in the Database Tool.

you can log into my workspace to see the result, but it is just that the database imports the records properly, but garbles the japanese text.

Almost! It now works to import japanese text, however now any cells that were blank on the original spreadsheet are ignored, and the data from the next column is moved over!

The records I am importing have several fields blank per record, so this is not good. A blank cell on the spreadsheet that was exported (or a ,, on the csv file) should be a blank cell on the DB table.

Good luck.

Now, all blank fields are filled with commas, but they usually import correctly in terms of the right data in the right field.

also, I have had slightly inconsistent results when importing. I will keep looking and report when I figure it out. For now it works good enough though, thankyou.
