About Collaber
What is Collaber?

Collaber is a platform for various teams to do all the Collaboration related work in a single, extensible place. Collaber enables users to create spaces and invite other users as members. These members inturn can add various tools availabe (i.e File Tool, Calendar Tool, Chat Tool, Discussion Tool and many more) and use them in place of existing systems like E-Mail, IM etc. Collaber enables development of custom tools according to the needs of the users. For developers Collaber provides a framework to develop their applications for the teams.

Is Collaber for me?

Does your daily task involve frequent communicating, interacting and sharing documents, notes, tasks, events, discussions or other related content with your team? Then Collaber is the ideal solution for you.

Collaber can be deployed very easily and rapidly by small teams. Consultants, marketers, developers, students are just some of the professionals who can leverage this tool to immediately enhance their collaboration experience with internal and cross-organizational members.

What advantage will I have with Collaber?

Collaber keeps the context of the work intact at any point of time. Any changes done to the data will be automatically updated. Existing solutions, such as email, file sharing and instant messaging provides single point solutions that lack context and are disjointed.

With Collaber you can go offline and still be able to work on your data. Unlike Collaber, web based solutions require permanent network connection without the ability to work offline.

Compared to other enterprise solutions like Lotus Notes, which are too costly and complex, Collaber is simple, flexible and affordable.

How much does it cost?

Collaber is still in Beta state of development. It will be free of cost to use for users who create Collaber accounts in the beta process.

For creating accounts using non-beta version of Collaber, we will ask for small payment for the service offered through hosting relay servers.

Do I need internet to use Collaber?

Collaber allows you to get work done in your work spaces without being connected to the Internet, or when a network connection is not available or reliable. You will need to have an Internet connection for the initial installation and at anytime you want to synchronize your spaces with your colleagues.

How many spaces can I create/join?

You can create unlimited number of spaces depending on necessity of your work.

How many members can exist in a Space?

It is possible to invite unlimited number of members to a Space. Please note that all the data of the space will be saved in every member's system.

Is there a limit on the amount of data I can store?

No, you can store as much data that fits on your hard disk. But remember that all files and data will be replicated to each and every team member.

How are the changes I make to my data sent to my colleagues?

Collaber synchronizes your space with members continuously as long as they are online. Once you save a change to a space, it will be synchronized with your colleagues instantly with all online members.

If your colleague is offline, changes will be sent to his/her relay server. If you are also offline, synchronization will be pending until you go online and a connection can be made between peers or to the relay servers.

Installing Collaber
I am unable to login, Collaber says invalid password. What to do?

The possible reasons are as follows.

  • You may be entering a wrong password.
  • You may be trying to login to an older collaber account. Collaber 1.1 do not support accounts created in previous versions.

Collaber 1.1 is basically a server based architecture where as previous versions are purely P2P.
If this is the case, you need to import the account (an empty new account) using Import button on the login dialog.

  • Previous configurations of Collaber is conflicting with new version.
In this case try to remove your ".collaber" folder located in your home directory.
For windows XP users it will be
    C:\Documents And Settings\[username]\
    Vista
    C:\Users\[username]\
    Linux
    /home/[username]
  • Please contact us with your usernames if you are still not able to login.

Security and Other Related Issues
How does Collaber protect the privacy of my data?

Your data in Collaber is always stored in your computer only(unless you share it with others).

All files in collaber are encrypted with AES 192bit security key. This key will be stored in a another encrypted database which can only be opened with a valid password.

We have found that collaber's secruity features will be comparable with the top most security softwares for general public. Even for defense purpose the security is very high in collaber.

All the data in the network is encrypted with AES 192 bit encryption key. This key will be again encrypted with the destination person's Public RSA 1024bit Encryption Key. Total data will again have a signature generated with your Private RSA 1024 signing key.

Collaber Relay servers will be acting as Store & Forword service. They will have access to encrypted data only. So the only way to decrypt the data is to hack your computer. As long as your computer is safe from unauthorized access, all your data is safe.

Can I increase the security level?

Yes. We will be happy to provide you a feature which will allow you to do so. You can even change your encryption/signing algorithms if needed.

Please contact us for such feature. We will provide you that feature at no extra cost. It will be incorporated in our future versions when it is ready.

What is a workspace?

Workspace is a virtual group which will contain team members. You can add new members to the group and you can delete members. Each member in your Workspace will have a security level (Manager, Participant, Guest). By default the person who created the group will be Manager. He can invite other members into one of the 3 roles.

A workspace will be useful only when it contains one or more Tools. Tools can be created both by Manager and Participant. But only Manager can delete tools.
